Book Coaching & developmental editing
Writing a book is a dream for so many people. But it’s also a huge project. There’s so much to consider:
How do you structure something as big as a book? And how do you write it so that it’s a compelling read?
Do you have the audience size you need? What exactly IS an author platform?
Is your book idea commercial? Should you try to get a book deal or self-publish?
Do you really have the time to take this on? And is now the right time?
How do you even begin? And how do you know if your writing is any good?
How can you get informed, expert advice on how to make your manuscript stronger?
Working with an experienced book coach and developmental editor is one way to get these questions answered.
Your stories hold your power
Hey there, I’m Sophy. I’m an editor turned writing mentor and book coach.
In my former working life I spent twenty years working as a publisher, writer and editor. I know how stories work from the inside out. I can help you to develop, structure and write your book - and revise it to make it so much stronger.
I’m here to help you get past all the gatekeepers to get your ideas out there, all while growing an audience of true fans who can’t wait for your book to be released.
I’ve worked with authors writing novels, memoirs and non-fiction books on all kinds of topics.
“I absolutely loved working with Sophy.
From the first moment in our discovery call, I felt comfortable, connected, supported, seen, cared for, and confident in not only her abilities, skill and know-how about books & publishing, but also her connection to and care for me as a whole person. The support was fantastic, all the small and large suggestions she offered were spot on, and the investment was 1,000% worth it.”

All my clients have a couple of things in common:
They want to write a book they can feel proud of
They want their book to reach as many people, and change as many lives, as possible
I’m here to set you up for that kind of success. I’ll help you to make sure that your book idea (and its execution) are as strong as possible and that you’re building your authority and author platform so that your marketing and book sales have a robust foundation to build on.
I’ve got 25 years of experience working in all facets of the books industry: in the editorial, publicity and marketing departments of publishers and for book festivals and book prizes, and as a freelance editor and book coach. I’m also an accredited Relational Dynamics Coach (I qualified back in 2009) so I can support you through writing blocks, feelings of imposter syndrome and the other aspects of the writing roller-coaster.
As Seen In:
What kinds of results have my clients seen from working with me?
My clients consistently describe me as a trusted and supportive thought-partner.
I only take on clients whose books I believe in, which means you and your book are special to me and will be treated accordingly. I’ll be rooting for you, and holding you accountable through the process.
I’ve been working as a book coach for well over ten years and I’m also cross-trained as a Relational Dynamics life coach, which helps me to support you if you’re experiencing imposter syndrome, writer’s block or issues around visibility etc.
Former clients have been published by Penguin Books, Sounds True, Canongate Books, Hodder & Stoughton, Saraband and Harvill Secker and have been shortlisted for the Booker Prize.
“I have written an entire book for my business as part of our time together, something I didn't really believe was possible in such a short timeframe.
Sophy helped me get clear on my concept and proposal, while the accountability of a small, intimate group kept me going even on days when I didn't feel like it.”
